Bullseye Cranks
factory pilot:
This stuff is incredible ... The thread is long but the gist is the the guy at Bullseye made ( and fake aged ) parts/packages and sold them as Deadstock NOS !!!!
Can't believe it passed me by ...
All very sad and depressing for our hobby ...
I had no idea ... Here's a couple of excepts that are big revelations and show the main points ..
At one point some "faked" hubs sold for $700!!!!!
The question still remains ... Who actually had/used them bitd?
dancetothedrummersbeat:
I personally wouldn't buy a set of hubs as it can be difficult to tell between old and new ones. No such issue with the cranks - depending on who you ask the 3 (or 2 with 2 phases) generations of cranks are easy to spot.
1st gen - hollow crank spindle on non drive side. No intergrated spider/powerdisc circular part to drive side
Gen 1.
Gen 2's had a circular part welded to the drive side onto which the spider or powerdisc could be attached.
Gen 2, phase 1 cranks had a hollow spindle. The non drive side arms were prone to working loose and falling off, so they modified the design which became gen 2, phase 2's (sometimes referred to as gen 3's). These featured a solid spindle end to the non drive side, so a retaining bolt and washer/stopper could be fixed to prevent the crank arm coming off. A safety key was also introduced where the pinch bolt was as a secondary safety feature - photo below shows the non drive side with retaining bolt/washer

Some pics of genuine Bullseye hubs,
Bought this pair of wheels in 2008 and they were USED.
Make of them what you will, I'm sayin fook all.
Midschoolfool:
Wow man that's pretty crazy really. How do you score $700 for a set of hubs? fake them.
I'm so glad that I am on a shoestring budget when it comes to buying stuff. It makes me a lot more careful about what I buy, and limits me from being ripped off I suppose.
TBH guys I had never even heard of Bullseye until a couple of weeks ago when it was talked about on the BMX museum. I can't say I liked them much either. They don't look anything special to me, and I have seen far nicer looking crank sets than that too (JAD's for example).
