So we go again.

As some of you (Ant/Andy) will be pleased to see, the familiar sight of my build bench is back.

This is my first build in well over a year, and will be the product of a conversation between myself and Johnnygoose at MK16, a build spoke about in jest, but the more I though about it, the better it looked in my head, time will tell.

We discussed a donor frame and forks. I knew it had to be a freestyler, I don't know why, it just seems the correct way to go with it. John suggested a Mongoose Decade (obvs) but in all honesty, I'm not a Decade fan and really think it needs to be a frame that's anonymous and bears no relevance to its brand. This reminded me of Andy DTTDB's Adidas build in which he'd taken a cheapish DB Venom mid 90's frame and debranded it using some careful welding, grinding and smoothing. I decided that this was the way for me too, then luckily Bash (forum member Ash) had a full bike for sale for £65, but wasn't shifting so I pm'd Ash and asked if he'd do a deal on the frame and forks only and he kindly said yes, so I got my donor Venom frame for a great price and it arrived yesterday - Thanks Ash.

Here are a few before pics.

What's next then? Well, Andy has given me a contact in Warrington that will do the work on the frame for me, if Andy recommends him, then he must be good, but I've also got a mate in work who is one of the Engineers who also comes very recommended, so after a little chat with him (Rob) I may give it to him, it will save on postage costs and Rob is really interested in my builds, so will be happy to get involved.

When the work is done, it will be down to SBD for a fresh white powder job.

It feels good to have my hands back on the Ame's I can tell you.

To be honest, I've sort of lose interest in it as the funds being used on it fit swallowed up due to the gas hob in my rental property breaking and the gas engineer finding out that my boiler flue was fooked.

I'll be back on with it in a few weeks.

I did buy some EZII bars off Wini for it though.

Welcome back dan :coolsmiley:

Thanks Phil, I missed the old place this time last year, had a lot of other stuff going on.

There's nowt like getting on a few rides, one if your best BMX buds nearly breaking their neck and a mad Scouse Mongoose collector planting a build seed in your brain to get the RAD love back.

Little update on this.

Well, new year, new drive to get this going, or so I thought but yet again the house I rent out (Trigger's broom) has swallowed £500 off me, just after Christmas as well, you couldn't write it!!!  :crybaby:

But, one of the new members posted a pic of his white venom so it sort of kicked my arse into looking into getting the metal work done on mine, so I messaged a guy local to me who is a welder and BMX rider so briefing him in what I wanted doing was easy and he's carrying out the work for £35. I estimate that this will be done by the end of Feb, so I hope to get this to SBD early March.

Also, changing a lot of parts on my Reflex had freed up some white parts for this.

Tyres
Chainwheel
Seat

and SBD sent me my lovely powdered EZII bars. And Our Clint had played a part in this build too, that's worth subscribing to this thread in itself.

As well as moving with my GT, I'm pushing this along as well. Now that the Silver Streak has gone I've a bit of spare cash to invest on both bikes.

The frame and forks aren't going to the guy I found on FB but sticking to the original plan of going to my mate Rob in Mold, I'm glad about it really as I can totally trust him to do what a want.

So I've collected/bought some bits:

Skyway EZII bars
SR stem
Tuf Neck 4 arm chain wheel
Repop ODI mushroom grips
Kenda K55 tyres
Bear trap type pedals
MX1000 copy calipers
Repop Kashimax Aero

Hopefully I've scored a set of repop Tuffs off a fellow forum member, but there's still a lot to get over the next few months, but it's progress at least.

I've just got back from dropping this off at my mate Rob's to get the cable guides ground off and to fill in all the diamond cut outs, he said it will be ready tomorrow!!

I have a frame with SBD at the moment anyway, so once that comes back, I'll unpack and send this down in the same box.

I just got back from picking the frame and forks up off my mate who filled in all the diamond cut outs and removed the cable guides from the frame. I've left the cable guides on the forks as they look a bit '85 Performerish and I may run a Potts mod, I'm not sure yet.

I'd've liked the filled in areas to be a bit smooother, but Rob's a mate and charged me ziltch so can't be too fussy and I reckon Dan can do a bit of magic prior to powder.
