Whats me bike doin then
« on: May 18, 2007, 09:25 AM »
Basically when i ride forwards its like me chain is going tight, clicks then goes slack  >:( quite annoying really.

What i have done to rectify:

1. Checked the alignment of me sproket with freewheel, various positions but no joy.
2. Wheel position
3. Double checking sproket position on spindle, but its spot on.
4. Chain is only a couple of months old 4 jeri half link.
5. Various slackness on the chain

Only leaves the freewheel wich is oddyssey, could it be dodgy in someway?

HELP!!!!!

Its a new frame so i shouldnt have bent it yet  :LolLolLolLol:

Funny you should mention the BB coz there was a slight issue getting the bearings in (its mid BB) and one of them is ever so slightly out, but doesnt hinder spindle performance.

Sprocket is new too, will try another one though, bloody annoying i can tell you.

Sounds like you have checked most things.  What about run out on the chain ring or perhaps a problem with the rear wheel bearing. That would show up as movement on the wheel though.
Might be worth checking the chain for tight links or even badly formed teeth on the chainring or sprocket.

Agree with chubs, I had the exact same souding problem as you and it was because the chain was too thin for the freewheel. (It looks fine, but was a fraction too narrow.)

Yeah riding ramps regular and have caught it a few times, took a couple of links out of chain when new bike was put together and re-checked it for stiff links, didnt really check for damge though, will check chain too  :)

a couple of things....

when you go over the volcano, you were sometimes hitting your chainring... maybe it is slightly bent...

i had a similar problem at epic last year.  it turned out that the bearings in the hub were knackered, and that made the sprocket fairly loose...

loosen the chainring bolt (the one holdin it to the crank) tighten  the cranks up then retighten the sprocket bolt, if this dont fix it take the chain off and file the edges of the teeth of the chainwheel, you might have a slight burr on there, I have had this before and it took me an age to work out, also check the chain line, I find that drive side bb spacers are normally too wide, and replace them with the thin washers from Flight cranks or similar to get a straight line
hope this helps?
 :) DINGO :)

top hat washer (spacer) sits just in side your sprocket/where it gos over your spindle, you only need to have a little bit of play for that to happen ross i had it recently tight then slack  chubbs knows what i mean cause he told me what it was on mine
