Help Needed. Converting US Videos (NTSC)

(1/2) > >>

moley:
I have a load of Old School Videos that I got from the States.   All are NTSC format and all work on my UK Video Player (PAL).

The Trouble is that when I connect to a DVD recorder the pictures quality is the same but the GREEN is turned way UP resulting in everyone looking like the Incredible Hulk.

Has anyone seen this problem before?

Has anyone solved this problem?

Do US tapes have some sort of Macrovision protection on them?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

MartyC:
What capture card are you using or are you just hooking it into a dvd recorder?  If the latter you might need to check that the DVD recorder can accept an NTSC feed.

moley:
I tried a USB Capture card and hooking it up to my dvd recorder.

I don't think it is macrovision due to the fact it doesn't pulse the brightness.  It just seem to be swamped in the green color range as if its been turned right up.

I'll try removing all the other hardware connected to my TV, incase that is messing it up and I'll try a few other things.  All of my Old School Videos are in good condition. If I can get it copying okay then the conversions should be spot on.

I think when it plays NTSC it converts it to PAL 60 so my TV recognises it okay but the DVD recorder doesn't quite like it.

Have you converted any US (NTSC) Tapes?

I've done it the other way round, NTSC to PAL, and connected my Camcorder to the VHS player to do it :-\.  On the card you are using does it have PAL, NTSC or Auto settings?  The reason it's greenish is because it's not able to cope with the PAL conversion a bit like playing NTSC on a PAL tv - plays back in b&w.  What make/model card are you using it may be worth Googling it as there are some great forums out there that you might find some good info in  :daumenhoch:.

Its called EasyCAP.

The thing I don't get is that when I plug it into my TV which is a bit shitty, it works perfectly.   If I recorded that image it would be spot on.

When I connect it to my DVD recorder it then goes Incredible Hulk on me!!
