An alternative to smacking headsets into show bikes with a hammer (pics)

Came up with a solution today to fitting the old headsets to show bikes as a substitute for a headset press, which I don’t have.

I got a piece of all-thread, a block of wood for the bottom, a washer for the top (which just fits into the cup) and a socket.

Tightened up the nuts (no need to overtighten) and tapped the cup, then tightened and tapped and so on. Kept on till it was home. Popped in a treat and never touched the paint.

I was so chuffed with myself  :laugh:
