can you get cranks rethreaded ?

<< < (3/4) > >>

SteveG:
If it's done properly a helicoil (if you can get the size) is better than just a thread in aluminium.
On a lot of aircraft stuff they are actually fitted to new parts. The same goes for the threaded bush. You would need to stick it in with proper loctite or make it so it screwed in from the back and had flats on it to hold with a spanner.

As you say though it isn't worth doing unless it's rare though as it will cost to get it done properly.

just epoxy the pedal in, it's strong enough. they use it to stick the wings on aeroplanes, and they used it to stick a bmx frame together, a vitus. easy peasy.

cheers for the advice fellas think i will leave it and purchase some new ones
right then off to the shed to find some bits to sell  :daumenhoch:

Remember pedal threads are left and right hand. Finding an engineering shop with 9/16 left hand helicoils may be a bit tricky.
But not impossible. Pedal taps are available.

Bushing the hole then re tapping is an option, similar to helicoiling.
