Title: S.J.K HURRICAINE (PIC HEAVY)
Post by: sawzall on October 16, 2010, 09:35 PM
I HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR ONE OF THESE FOR OVER 6 YEARS AND HAS BEEN 16 MONTHS IN THE MAKING
BUT I HAD TO FIND ALL THE RIGHT PARTS TO BUILD IT AS CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL BIKE AS THEY WERE BUILT BITD
I PICKED UP THE FRAME FORKS ETC FROM ONE OF THE GUYS THAT ORIGINALLY BUILT THEM,HE WAS GOING TO BUILD IT HIMSELF BUT GOSSA HOOKED ME UP WITH HIM AND HE DECIDED TO LET IT GO,THE FRAME HAD BEEN BADLY SAND BLASTED THEN CHROME PLATED :idiot2:BUT IF MUST HAVE LOOKED SO BAD IT WAS PAINTED SATIN BLACK,I STRIPPED PAINT THEN HAD CHROME REMOVED
AND THEN SPENT WELL OVER FOURTY HOURS SANDING AND POLISHING FRAME TO REMOVE ROUGH SAND BLAST FINISH BEING CAREFUL NOT TO REMOVE BRAIZED WELDS BEFORE RE CHROME,THEN I HAD BOTTOM BRACKET-HEADSET-RIMS-HUBS-CRANKS-RE ANNOD AS PER ORIGINAL FINISH.ONE OF THE ORIGINAL PARTS THAT WAS MISSING WAS THE S.J.K STEM AND THE CHANCES OF FINDING ONE WAS SLIM TO ZERO SO I DECIDED TO FABRICATE ONE,I ONLY HAD A SMALL PICTURE OF ONE TO WORK FROM,I USED CDS TUBE AND 3MM PLATE THEN I BRAIZED IT TOGETHER AS THEY WERE ORIGINALLY,THEN I HAD SOME ALLOY STEM TOPS MACHINED UP AND THEN SHAPED EDGES BY HAND,ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALANGES WAS RE-CREATING THE DECALS AS WE ONLY HAD A FEW SMALL PICS TO WORK FROM BUT STEVE (FIREBIRD) STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND WORKED HIS MAGIC AND I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THE RESULTS
BIG THANKS TO STEVE(FIREBIRD)FOR PADS AND DECALS
STIDDS FOR WHEEL BUILD  WEEKSEY FOR ANNO ON STEM
AND MASSIVE THANKS TO GOSSA FOR SORTING OUT THE PROJECT FOR ME ;)

Phil when I saw this bike at MK10 as I said to you at the time it's one of the greatest builds I've seen - the pics don't begin to do it justice - the restoration work is outstanding as per usual and some of the unique parts are fantastic - just look at that headset for starters  :coolsmiley:

Top draw - one of a kind - love it  :daumenhoch:

Thats a really nice restoration. There was an article in Action bike at the time they came out and I really wanted one.

I was forever getting  loose headsets and the thought of having one that was a bit more heavy duty plus it was different was quite appealing.

Nice to meet one of the guys involved with building them as well.

Quality...... real quality. Nice brazing aswell, i used to have brazing like that on one of my framesets.  :'(

Also nice to see someone taking photos of their bikes against different backgrounds, i remember Phils Vincent had a Jap flag as a background. This photo complements the bike very well.
