Hi all going back to my roots
« on: March 21, 2015, 10:45 PM »
Hi all..
midlife crisis kicking in and going back to roots..
Just bought this today..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1985-Haro-Master-Freestyler-Old-School-BMX-skyway-Tuffs-Pro-Neck-GT-Hutch-Bob-/331504827155'ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=wPms6qNKXce3yvLt5AVrz%252Frarb0%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

What do you think .
I think I got a bargain as I see frames alone go for much more...
Just ordered new bits already and it hasnt landed yet ...
Anyway..
Going up in my attic tommorow and bringing down my old original bike I bought back new in`84
I bought a rebel freestyle pro frame and forks (with reynolds 4130 tubing I think..) from a small bike shop top of Crwys road oppsite the police station in Cardiff.
Back then I removed all the goodies from my year old `83 ultra burner (as I kept snapping the frames x2 and bars x3 all replaced warranty at my local halfords in Barry >:D )
What A Great bike that rebel was..so light and strong doing all the ground tricks and jumps on home made ramps and jumping off bus-top roofs  :uglystupid2:
Cannot wait for it to arrive , as I always wanted a Haro freestyler or a pro performer back in the day but couldnt afford either so I built my own to my budget..
welll...
passed caring what everyone thinks when it lands..
And the comments that I am to old..
bring it on !!!
wish it was `84  again...
happy dayyyyysssss..
Ady

Dunno about 'bargain' but not too bad a deal, you can always upgrade bits as you see fit  :daumenhoch:

Thanks for your replies...
Been looking for a chrome framed haro for some time now as most available have painted frames or over priced chromed frames..
I wanted something complete with a few scuffs here and there as this is going to be "used" as some listed were just too nice to be abused..
I know there are not if any original parts like the "new" skyways etc.. but why have a original bike with the price tag it commands, and thought in the back of your mind that you might mark these nice nos or original components trying your old school tricks..( I hope  :daumenhoch: )
And was happy what I payied when it ended..
Anyway..
Going to change a few bits when it arrives and cannot wait to get back into it again.
Got my old rebel freestyle pro down today got a bit of work to do as the chrome frame is a bit pitted in places any tips would be great please..
Cheers all....

Bobbbs has a point about using a new school for riding, I got a haro master when I got back into BMX and after a few goes in the skate park ended up going NS (cheaper/lighter/stronger etc)

Can't beat OS for cruising though  :daumenhoch:

what happened to your haro griff ?

its like utility car buying . would you really want a 80s car when you could have a 2000 and something car or a 2015 car at best .

I flogged it to make way/pay for the Ripper Bobbbbs  :( was a shame as it had given me some good memories but didn't have the room or funds to build something else otherwise
I do prefer the PK though so all good  ;)

Hi Griff,
I think your correct...
Looking now at NS and shocked what you can get for your money..
So now looking to go down that root..
Being cheeky..
What NS bike did you get after?
Or what would you all recommend.
I Would like somthing light must be freestyle with a long frame.
Would love to get a OS gt frame as they are pretty light and strong.. Then buy a NS used gt pro take off the goodies and have the best of both worlds.
Have seen this done and looks great ..
But they said they have issues with the NS forks and have to modify them..
here is the link...

again many thanks for your replies..
cheers all...

Its always worth having a look on ebay for decent used new school bikes too.

Late last year I picked up a S&M LTF with decent parts on it for less than 300 quid  :daumenhoch:

Hi Bones..
Using your expertise..
Is this any good/price spec etc....
http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1730269/?directtofirstphoto
Very local just up the road to me ..
But the top of the frame looks a bit short as looking for a 21"..
What do you think ;)
or..

http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/112639947/custom-bmx-strong-light-good-condition.html
But looks a bit battered....

Finally very cheap..
Dont know what frame copy skyways wheels??
http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/12021490/
Sorry to trouble you all..
Cheers..

I have no expertise  ;D

There are plenty on here who have decent knowledge about NS bikes, i'm not one of them

Have a look in the new school park section on here and see what people are building, and do some research on whatever frame you think of getting.

If you can try before you buy, do it.

Where are you based?

Used to live not too far from Cardiff, Hay-on-Wye  :daumenhoch:

There must be some skateparks near or in Cardiff? Get yourself down to them and talk to the kids, see if you can blag a go on any of their bikes, see what suits you. I did this and they were all really helpful.

I'm right down south now on the coast  :daumenhoch:

anything that has SC , stolen , exposure parts on is not too great . the middle 1 is probably the best bet but if you treade it off against slkighttly more for a better new bike it becomes not worth it . last 1 is pos .

If you're planning on spending that kind of money..

I'd recommend getting a site tag and heading over to the for sale section where you can find this
http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,180809.0.html

But otherwise just be patient, look at loads and then buy something or you'll only end up having to buy over n over again

How tall are you? That may help narrow things down a bit..

But like you said I will end up buying over again like this haro I just bought...
I just seen a PK ripper which I should have bought so watch this space  ::)
Anyway..
5ft 9" and the wrong side of 40 (sigh...)
Cheers all...

Most of us on here are the wrong side of 40  :LolLolLolLol:
Look for something with a top tube around the 20.8" - 21" length & go from there
I'm about 5'8" & my frame is 20.8" with a set of decent sized bars is plenty roomy  :daumenhoch:
