Foxxy:
Thanks Bobafet. Here are some photos. Hope they are clear enough.

Well you've got non-gusset era forks on a gusset era frame for starters mate, they deffo ain't supergoose forks (supergoose forks are 7/8" not 1" tube) those forks are probably off an 83-85 californian/expert - should all still fit together though. Does that head lock tighten down ? or is that how it sits in the piccy ? Not had that type of headset on any of my geese so can't comment on any issues with that. As for your ACS stem not fitting have you tried removing that headlock and checking that the stem slides in to the fork tube without it ? Maybe it's the headlock ??? Can't see any reason why an ACS stem wouldn't fit those forks.
Maybe it's the wedge ?
I'd remove the headlock, and the wedge and bolt and then just see if the stem shaft will fit into the fork tube on it's own for starters mate :daumenhoch:

Well at least I now know what I've got thanks.
I guess supergoose forks are like rocking horse poopoo(?), so I'll probably have to stick with the ones I've got for now. The suntour headlock nut does go down. And I had already tried what you suggested but the stem simply won't go in. :'(
The headset came with the frame. Its not marked but works.
Thanks again for your advice.
