14mm axle to fit 10mm forks?

(1/3) > >>

Hellcat:
I've got some 14mm axle wheels, and some 10mm forks I want to try out. The wheels are ok, hardly used, and it'd cost about £50 to get a similar quality wheel, I just wanna try the forks out cheap as poss to start with.

Is it possible to get a 14mm axle spindle with pre-shaved ends?

I can't get the existing ones filed as they're hollow.

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks.

What's the hub?

Hellcat:
FreeAgent branded "14mm hollow cartridge bearings"

Dannywhac:
I reckon then (although others may know more) that your best bet would be to remove the axle from the hub (you'll have to knock out one bearing to do this), measure the distance between the collars for the bearings on the axle and go to your LBS and find a 10mm collared axle with the same collar distance. You'll also need new bearings the same outer/width dimension as the ones already in there, but with a 10mm inner ring.

Or buy a new 10mm hub and lace to wheel.

Hellcat:
Cheers for this.
