Pre serial Hutch Exper Racer - Project Budget Hutch
oldscool:
Put on it what you like. Im building all my bikes the way I like with a mix of my favorite parts.
Thats how I had my bikes when I was a kid and thats how I like them a mix of parts I like the look of. Most BMX bikes evolved when we were kids we swapped parts all the time. Im not a fan of bikeshop builds I think they are a bit dull.

When we were kids... i still do it.. my motorcycle has different parts from different Suzuki's peppered all over it! :D :D
I think I'm getting a clearer idea of how to go with it.. I think a nice frame colour with period chrome or polished parts might be the way this is going. My problem is I needed to create a build thread to make sure I got this thing built! I am very bad at seeing a plan through to the end. I usually do finish what I start but the "backburner" section of my shed can become very full very quickly! I'm starting to get excited now.. appreciate the help gents!

As an update the frame is being stripped at present. The build is going on but I have nothing really to report.
Decided on my color schemes and powder coating colour so updates will follow. I know there are lots of threads that start and never go anywhere hence the update 👍
Lots of shopping to do. I did intend going to MK but having lived there for many years I just couldn't get the motivation to drive down from Cleethorpes. Having seen the pics I should have.. looked awesome. I'll get this hutch sorted for the next one.

We all love a crazy long detailed build thread here on RAD .. :4_17_5:.. Or is that just me :P :LolLolLolLol:
Seriously dude if you procrastinate we are all here to confuse you even more! ;D
Looking forward to this one :daumenhoch: 8)

Project budget hutch has been painted locally. I did want to send it away but couldn't really afford it. I am working on the basis that I could perhaps get it powder coated once built.
As I'm due to get the frame back within the next couple of days I need some help..
1) No way am I going to be able to fit the "correct" forks to this.. I simply could not justify the cost and it wouldn't be a budget build - Does anybody have any fork suggestions that would fit? Ideally period correct..
2) I have been looking at crank options. Hutch stuff looks beautiful but again the cost is quite scary. Having seen so many bikes ending up being broken once built Id rather not have a fortune invested and not need to sell it once built. Historically I didn't like 3 piece cranks due to creaking etc and was a fan of One Piece Cranks. Is it possible to fit an OPC on one of these frames? Any 3 piece suggestions?
I was going to fit some 7x type wheels as I don't recall seeing one of these on Skyways.. Would be cheaper to build with Skyway "news" with Kool Caps but not really what I'm looking for.
As the hutch stems are beautifully made I will probably just polish a MS-422 SR within an inch of its life. I know hutch used these with a "cap" but they seem quite pricey...
Once the frame is in my hand I'll inspect and the post pictures of the frame as it is now. I am pretty excited!
Sorry to ask what may seem like such basic questions. I probably shouldn't have tried to do a Hutch on a budget but Ive dipped my toe and fell in it seems.
