powder coaters

Greg, our local coaters showed me an example of "chrome" powder coating some months ago. All I can say is, don't get too excited :-\ Don't get me wrong, it was good, but NO way was a substutute for chrome. It was like a very good "wheel silver". Sorry to p1ss on ya fire mate, but it didn't impress me I'm afraid. Ad

As a powder coater/painter i work with this chrome silver and i agree with lazy chubs that is is like a polished pk ripper, infact i would say it is more shiny than a pk. but and this is where you have to choose for yourself, don,t lacour over powder it will flake, it will chip and it will not with stand any abuse. chrome silver by a good manufacturer can be as good as any chrome today, i once done a custom bike in chrome silver, engine block wheels frame bars ect but it must be coated right. most of the chrome i do, i coat hot as this allows a flat even coat, again this will only work if the prep is right, any way my advise is chrome silver on pk, race inc ect but if your after chrome than it must be chrome ;) but if u r after a top copy than if done right yes chrome silver but only from a good manufacturer :) one last note powder bakes at 180 degrease, normal laquer bakes at 125/150degrease. if they are using proper stove enamel laquer. if its car laquer it will peel of or fake, thats my advise with twenty years in the game.

another powder question
if you have chrome items whats involved to get them coated is it a lot of prep work ?
got a project in tubes thats curerntly got chrome forks and bars which i will want to match the frame when i get it done
only looking for gloss black finish on the parts nothing flash.
