Gen 2 Profile Spider

(1/3) > >>

Bigplinky:
Got a spider for my gen 2 profile box cranks the other week but was a bit surprised by the diameter of the hole in the centre. I was expecting it to be 19mm so it went straight on the spindle but it measures 22.5mm(ish) now this is too small to fit on a 1 piece crank (23.6mm) so my question is when you bought these cranks new did you have to shim the spider or did you get a 19mm one (and if so what's my one off?).

It's not going to cause me any problems I was just interested.

Cheers

Andy

diesel:
Profile never made one piece cranks. The shim that you can buy from any profile dealer has two functions:

a) The first is to narrow the diameter down to fit your spindle.

b) The second is that 'top hat' shape of this shim sits neatly onto the inner bearing case, thus working as a spacer between the spider and the bearing so that it dosen't foul up.

hope that helps

diesel:
Well I could be proven wrong, but I've owned a few and they have all been the same internal diameter - and all requiring a profile shim to fit 'neat and snug'.
