G, DAY RADSTERS... im sure by now most of us have herd the sad news that Mark Wini is leaving us in 2013 to go and live in (http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/flags/australian-flag.gif) .. now im sure you will all agree that there is no way we can see Mark leave without one last radride . (http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/hello/gday-mate-aussie-smiley-emoticon.gif) so put this date in ur diary .. MARCH 2ND 2013 .. meeting place..the square opposite Leeds train station ....12 mid day .

I'll check the ko time and suggest we stay clear of ER unless we are very early. I'll also look into the pub and hotel situation in the morning. Hotels around brewery wharf are pretty sound.

Just a thought after the match realisation.
We may be better meeting in city square just outside the station because it was a little congested with all the bikes last time and that wasn't on a match day. That should keep us separate from the footy crowd.
Hotels wise you have the premier inn in a straight line 3 minute ride from city square/the station just along Wellington street.

Hotels wise, there are loads to go at in the area around the station. Try some of these....

Jurys Inn
Crowne Plaza
Comfort Inn
or if you're feeling a bit posh, Malmaison. (Its still Leeds, posh means you get a separate container for your gravy ;) )

but if they cant get hold of each,they might go after a large group that isnt associated to them

Only requirement is that you need to pack your bike up a bit first, seats fold down but boot is a bit small

I got to agree with Stu, I have lived in Leeds for 8 years, my missus has been in Leeds all her life and we stay out of Leeds on match days.
I would expect a lot of police, all the pubs will have bouncers on and you'd be lucky to get in a pub for a drink.
Leeds and Millwall have a bit of history for fighting, and Leeds fans have been known to even have a fight amongst themselves when theres no one else to fight with.
When Simon on raleigh burner organised his Leeds ride before xmas, he made sure Leeds were not at home.
What Stu says makes sense, it would take much for a load of pis*ed up football fans to start on 30 lads on bmxs.

100% agree on that, we had probs even getting a pint and a burger on a non match day in Leeds, one pub refused us due to health and safey, there was a table with 4 people on having a drink, and a couple of hundred spare seats in and outside area. 35 of us turned away wanting food and a drink, incase our bmxs injured anyone lol

Shame Mark J's club is in Hull and not Leeds like I thought it was

Like I said earlier, Leeds fans have been known to start fighting amongst themselves if theres no one else to fight, I'll never figure that one out ::)
One of my mates has 3 brothers, who are all in the Leeds service crew, match day involves snorting a few lines and battering anyone they come across
I am gonna decide later wether to go on this ride or not, really fancy it, as it would be a great excuse to build my haro, and only know 1 or 2 from rad its mostly the burner crew I know so I am keen to meet the rad boys. If the ride route ends up going out of Leeds centre I'll be up for it, if it stays in Leeds I dont think I'll bother after the last Leeds ride, it got to the point where Si's wife had to ring ahead to each of the pubs and ask if they would let us in and in the end we ended up riding out of Leeds centre for a few pints. That said, riding out towards headingly ended up spot on, with a pub with a giant beer garden who had no problem with loads of bmx bikes everywhere.

yup you are right dordy, Jon the bassists idea is a good one, depends on everyone elses opinions too, I am only new to rad so dont want to appear like I am trying to re-organise someone elses ride, but this ride would work so much better on the outskirts of Leeds, Headingley is ideal for starters

It's an early kick off so as long as we stay away from ER we'll be fine. I've lived in and around Leeds most of my life and have only seen it go off properly once in the city centre. I've seen more trouble in a few visits to Blackpool to be honest.
I'll look into a route that keeps us away from the footy crowd as much as possible, and speak to a few bars about letting us in.
Plus the millwall fans will be pretty much ushered straight back saaarf

Right Lads, reading a few of the coments on here it seams a few of you are a little concerned about the football game.i spoke to Glynnyboy at the start of all this as hed been involved with the Leeds ride last time, Wini knows Leeds very well and so does Rooski and Kappy and reading the posts so does John the Bassist and Diesel1 , so im confident between all these local lads we can head of in the opostite direction of any trouble. Most people will either travel to Leeds by train or head to a hotel in the Centre of Leeds. if anyone would like to surgest a better place to meet up other than the Train station then feel free but remember that us out of towners need to be able to find the meeting point :daumenhoch: were ever we ride we will have a great time so im sure we dont need to worry to much about the game .... i keep coming back to the thread guys but if i miss anyones name from the list feel free to drop me a pm .

I know some people who go to the football in Nottm with the sole intention of causing malarky.
But with people that also want malarky, if you know what i mean.
The last people that they want it with is normal civillians or 'bobble hats'.
I have been out with the missus on Sat night in Leeds on big match days and never had any trouble (even when we walked into Henry's in the middle of an obvious 'Boys' gathering).
I never go into Nottm on a Sat night with just the missus no matter what.
As long as we're not wearing Stoney, Aquascutum or the usual favourites I think we'll be cool.

After his rideout last year, he says there is zero chance of us getting in any of the pubs in Leeds centre (only one pub let us in last year and it still caused a lot of hassle). He has suggested a route if anyone fancies it. Its been mentioned, and he agrees, that it will be best to meet somewhere just outside the station, due to the huge amount of police in the station on match day.
5 mins from the station on the outskirts of Leeds centre, is a pub called the dry dock, its an old boat made into a pub. They were fine for 30 odd bikes on the top deck bit of the boat, and happily gave us drink and did us meals. Another 10 mins from there north of the centre, (passing a skatepark on the way) is a pub called the original oak, this has a huge outdoor area, and another pub that will be fine with a big group on bikes. From there he suggested riding down towards kirkstall abbey, more pubs round there with big outdoor areas. From there, its easy to pick up the canal path, and he knows of a few more pubs round there with big outdoor seating areas that will accept bikes.

Sounds like a good route, I've just this minute pm'd diesel. Keeps us well away from the football crowds if anyone is worrying, but be prepared to work up a thirst :daumenhoch:

Dry dock is straight up from the square,past the town hall towards the uni,its all uphill but not too bad :daumenhoch:
If the route goes back down to Kirkstall road,its flat all the way back to town :)

The ride did work out good and I put that down to the spirit of the riders! I would definitely get to the Oak earlier and make sure we got on the canal. Jane and me did the canal from Armley to Horsforth and back to town then to Wortley in 2 hours on a wet Monday morning so it should easily be done on a Saturday afternoon.

Right lads, I've spent half the day on the phone to various pubs along a route that diesel1 (Simon) had suggested. Been honing my Google skills too, and have a posted a link to said route below.
This is around 10 miles in total :shocked: so lay off the pies for a couple of weeks. All the pubs I have spoken too are happy with 50+ lads turning up, however I did sweeten the deal with the word 'charity' in there once or twice. So if you haven't already (cheers Griff and dannyRobbo) please donate if you can. You'll feel better for it.
If the route is proving a bit tough for some of our salad dodgers, the last pub on the route where we double back on ourselves could be missed out and save a few miles. Its worth pointing out at this time, that I'm not open to dozens of different 'suggestions', however helpful and well meaning. I just haven't got the time.
We are well away from the football crowds, and our 'guests' for the day, Millwall ;)
So if you turn up late, follow the route and ye shall find!

I work with a bunch of fanatic Millwall supporters by Millwall inner dock in Docklands. Hell they even have their tea in Millwall mugs. If it wasn't so far I'd drive them up in the espace and get them on the ride with some of my bikes in their Millwallaway kit.

Still manic in the peanut house hold. Just done safety checks on the 2 bikes, both are fresh builds and have not even been ridden, just gone round and double checked all nuts and bolts and brakes are set up right. Mrspeanut is painting her nails to match her frame, and also nail varnishing her white cable ties to match the frame. Just about sorted, getting a basic tool kit together too.

Well the pictures are starting to dribble in but what a cracking day.
The weather was perfect, the laughs were plenty and the birds were cracking in the Original Oak and a couple of other boozers for sure.
Missed my train to sneak a couple of last beers in. Eventually got home 45mins late as I jumped in a black cab at sheffield rather than wait for the connecting train. Wife had the face on and the kids were still up so by the time I got them to bed I was done for so I cracked open the vodka and raised a glass to you all still drinking at that cool little bar with the courtyard.
Highlights - seeing all the rabble that make up Rad again. Having a pint with some lads I ride with often but always in some shitty skateparks. Meeting new folk and putting names to faces.
Lowlights - those hills, riding past the first pub to the second to find everyone still in the first and how busy the skatepark was, especially as everyone arrived as me, Ed, Leeny and Rob had snaked a few runs in beforehand......
Mint day out - what happened after I left at 7pm then lads?

Found a wickardly rideable brick tit in an old playground but it was glass city and not the best area so Len indicated with head movements that we should leave... now :LolLolLolLol:
Had a lovely lunch after waiting an age for what looked like being shite fish and chips... turned out they were proper :angel: and I enjoyed them sat in the sun with Pickle and Spen.
Leeds looked like a great place to explore 8)

Couldn't have asked for a better day, great turnout and banter throughout. God knows what time I got back in with a kebab in hand but it stunk the room out this morning!
Thanks all that came, some lovely bikes and great people old and new. Shame the park was so rammed with young uns but if that was the worst of it, I'll take it. Special thanks to Simon diesel1 for helping with the route, Lenny for kicking the whole thing off, and Carl for the decals. It's good to know my face is all over fookin Leeds this morning! Great day out, met some mates, made some new ones. Glad to meet Wini before he leaves. We left the midnight bell around 6.30pm I think. We had a long ride to Simon/diesels house. It was a killer, uphill all the way I was wrecked by the time we got to the top, must have 30-60 mins of non stop up hill, can't remember how long it actually took, seemed to be forever. Got back home for 8pm and drank gin till midnight and then slept for 10 hours.
Been living in Leeds for 8 years and I am still seeing new places, didn't even know the last pub midnight bell was there.
Gutted I can't make Chester, I arranged to go to Edinburgh on the train for a few beers with my Dad and my Brother that day.

Thinking it was probably a good idea we had some hills yesterday, the exercise probably helped counteract the effects of all that beer ;D
