The fork tube is straight... i thought there was a ridge at the base to push the fork ring onto...  ???

no mine have the ridge, but the ring is still slack

think you need the ridged bit! or a special bottom ring :)

billstup:
There should be a ridge or a shim of some kind around that bit of the forks, the one on my gen 1 forks had moved a bit so I just pushed it back in to place. I was quite surprised as I thought it was a fixture as such, but it may be the case that it is just missing from yours  ;)

Frosty:
Hmm certainly looks like what Bill said - bit of ring slippage!

Is this how you received the forks, as they look like they have had something at the bottom.

FuNMoNsTeR:
Thanks guys....Yes i got the forks like this :(
Here are some shots of the gap involved.... 2 shots with an old Tange fork ring and one shot with the Hatta ring.
Does anyone know where in the wide wide world of sports i can get a shim?
